I will also throw in High Maintenance. It had the fortune of being picked up by HBO (and the original web series is housed in HBO) but I originally enjoyed it on Vimeo and even paid to help them make more episodes. That’s the only web series I have watched but Headless looks good! Very interesting insights on the form. Maybe after consolidation of these corporations and the Disneyification of “content” viewers might return to the old form.

P.S. I watched Cobra Kai on YouTube after subscribing to YouTube TV for a month.

Friends mocked me for signing up for YouTube Red just to watch Cobra Kai when it came out and then I forgot to cancel it for like 9 months afterwards but I'll just pretend that money went to producing more Cobra Kai.

Just wanted to say because of this piece I watched "Edgar Allan Poe's Murder Mystery Dinner Party" on YouTube. Really entertaining. The production qualities were pretty solid, if perhaps a step below a linear or streaming show. But it was lots of fun and seeing Jim O'Heir appear was a hoot for sure.

Saved this for the weekend, and it was a great read. 2008-2012 was such a fun time for web storytelling, and it’s sad how it all sort of ends up folding on itself back to traditional media. I learned about Headless through the Starkid cast members (another very internet-y troupe), and while enjoying each episode and admiring the production, I can’t help but feel like they feel -- I’m very happy it exists and they were able to create what they wanted to create, but wish they were rewarded in a financial sense. I also can’t help but think how a lot of those things 10 years ago came from recent college graduates/younger creatives; possible, fewer responsibilities and duties, and more time for self-made content with no return. As someone around those creator’s age range, both responsibilities and financial realities of 2022 are way different for me than they were in 2010.
