The idea of a Matlock reboot was one I had entirely dismissed (while likewise missing it was from the creator of Jane the Virgin, which I loved). So thanks for this! It sounds like it might hit that The Good Wife sweet spot of balancing the procedural stories with an interesting larger plot, so I'll definitely have to check it out now.
Having seen the pilot, if it does strike your fancy, I would also recommend Elsbeth, which came from the Kings (creators of The Good Wife) in midseason last year, and is actually a spinoff of The Good Fight, focusing on Carrie Preston's character similarly hiding a sharp sense of observation behind disarming goofy charm (rather than Matlock's disarming folksy charm).
The two feel like they'd fit very well with each other.
I watched through all of The Good Fight without ever really falling in love with it, and gave up on Elsbeth after the first two or three episodes, alas. But I loved TGW back in the day! (Through the end of season 5, at least.)
Okay I watched the Matlock episode. Wow. That ending! I am a fan of procedurals but am hoping subsequent cases are a tad better. To be fair they were establishing what the show was at the same time. As someone above mentioned this show pairs nicely with Elsbeth. It does feel like the culture at CBS is finally moving beyond Les Moonves. It reminds me of older eras like Murder She Wrote and Cagney and Lace.
Finally caught the first five episodes of Colin From Accounts and have really enjoyed it. Definitely going to catch the whole thing.
I immediately recognized Harriet Dyer from American Auto, but I'd forgotten since it was less fresh in my mind that Patrick Brammall also created and starred in No Activity. I watched all four seasons of the American version, which lost some steam in its later seasons as it got further from its premise, but was still quite good overall.
Plan to, yes. But Netflix fired the publicist that got me screeners before, and my request has been ignored thus far, so might have to shift from a speedier set of reviews to a more languid “two episodes at a time as I have time for them.”

If only they hadn't cancelled So Help Me Todd, that would've been a great trifecta of law/detective procedurals.

Sorry if I missed this elsewhere on the site, but are you doing anything with Heartstopper this season?
