Last week on Bluesky I mentioned an upcoming show I was watching that didn't really reveal its premise by the end of its first episode (a too-common problem these days). Anyway, the show I was obliquely referring to was CHANGELING. I do appreciate that Apple is making the first three episodes available in week one but I still think that TV writers/producers need to get back to hooking viewers in the first episode rather than assuming/hoping that the audience is going to binge.

Juts because the premise is not revealed until the end of the first episode does not necessarily imply a bingeing assumption. I am thinking specifically of Orphan Black, which took a few episodes before we, the viewers understood the premise.

just here to comment "yay!" re: Donna reviewing The Gilded Age (aka: "Uptown Ladies", as my mother and i refer to it whenever the name of the show escapes us.)

I even hate the multi ep drop to start. Scheduling is hard.

Can't wait for Donna to do the Golden Age

Thank you kindly for the update.

Donna is great, and I haven't watched The Gilded Age, but if Donna is reviewing it I may have to try it out!

It's very common, and annoying, for a show that airs weekly in the US to be kept until it finishes airing for a binge release overseas. Justified: CP is only on Disney+ tomorrow, Warrior S3 went up on Sky last week, and Minx S2 is going to be on Paramount Plus next week.

A Murder at the End of the World was going to be same-day on Hulu and Disney Plus before it was pushed back, hopefully that's still the plan. I think the only other shows to do that are OMITB and Futurama (EDIT: Maybe The Kardashians?).

*Sigh*. I am still bitter about Poker Face releasing 4 episodes its first week! I like to have a bunch of shows going at the same time so it’s an actual hardship if I want to “watch along” here or elsewhere with such multi-episode debuts. It took me a full 3 weeks to get in sync with the recaps. My possibly unpopular opinion is there should just be 1 episode a week (or at most 2 if it’s a true 2 parter) OR just dump it as a binge. I don’t like these hodgepodge releases at all. My only solution is to just be behind and read the recaps at my own pace. But then I mostly miss out on the conversation.

I have never seen Our Flag Means Death so I am happy to hear about the Season 1 recaps.

I also am enjoying Harley Quinn right now. I feel like it’s a good candidate for coverage here. Animated shows might be more nimble getting back on the air after the strike so something to consider.

OFMD release schedule driving me crazy. Excited for a slightly prolonged discussion of it over here!

Neil Gaiman has been very active on Tumblr talking about how he wanted Good Omens S2 to be a daily release, at the very least, if not weekly, instead of all at once - I think I might have enjoyed the season more had the relatively tension-free 6 episodes been given more breathing room that my self-control & desire to not get ~spoiled could not manufacture...

I’m still recovering from the bizarre airing of Legend of Korra Book 3 following a couple episodes leaking online.

I will never forgive Nickelodeon for the way they treated Korra.

PIRATES

But yes, sorry, this is a great take on something that for some reason I've still never given much thought to. Why wouldn't you want to milk your established property?? Unless, of course, this established property isn't going to last much longer. Or brainless belief. That works too. As it is I almost won't believe Our Flag Is Death is back until I watch it, given how much time passed between when it got renewed and when the press machine fired up again.

For some reason I didn't realise the release schedule for S1 was like that. Not sure if that makes the second and third episode being kind of duff more acceptable or not. Though to say more might risk giving the game away. I didn't watch S1 until some months later, is the thing, and that was two episodes every two weeks because Emily St. James was covering it on her blog, and that's how she split it out. (I'm mildly tempted to copy over the notes I took from back then, though that would mean subjecting even more people to my musings on "the most fabulous pirate crew of all time". Hmmm.) Either way, I'm happy to join this mutiny and stretch pirate season out a little longer.

I've clicked on the "Yearly Subscriptions only 40" button but it doesn't allow me to switch to the $40/year plan from my 'manage subscription' page, only to the $50/year. Is there any other way to make the change?

In the previous post Myles noted you'll need to pay for the $50 a year option - but then email him separately and you'll get another two months on top of that to make it up. That's what I did!

Oh ok. I think I misunderstood that. Thank you!
