I just miss The Babysitters Club so much. That show was a gem.

That's good news for Heartstopper. I hope those favorables don't just motivate Netflix to make a second season but to make more content like it. It sucks that The Babysitters Club ended up on the bad side of the algorithm.

I canceled my Netflix subscription recently, so I guess I'm part of their problem. $20 a month is a lot, especially when I get HBO Max for free with my cell phone plan and Apple TV is like $5, and both of those have more shows I actually want to watch than Netflix does. At this point I will subscribe to Netflix once or twice a year to catch up on things (probably around when the new season of Great British Bake-Off starts) and then cancel again right away.

This is an excellent analysis but boy, this does not bode well for Netflix. More and more, the best comparison I can make is the Fox TV Network. Where it’s pretty ruthless and sort of random if you get good shows. I don’t see an HBO mentality at all. HBO has its hits, but it also values its niche programming. Instead Netflix only seems to follow data. That has its limitations. It’s odd how Netflix doesn’t understand how subscribers view shows they have not watched but want to one day. For me, I just am not going to value a service as much if they have tons of well thought of shows that only ran 1 or 2 seasons. I love considering a show that has 5 solid seasons even if I haven’t watched 1 minute of it. It’s the difference between keeping a service or contemplating canceling it. I wish The Babysitter’s Club had a 5 season run that I was going to eventually watch. I will also throw in that Teenage Bounty Hunters was a solid show that should have been given subsequent seasons. It’s all about value!

I loved Russian Doll S1, but haven't started S2 yet, and had pretty much forgotten it until this post. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually, but I don't feel any urgency to catch up. In terms of weird time-travel-y shows, Undone S2 is much higher on my priority list.

"I expect it highly unlikely that Heartstopper manages anything from an awards perspective in the U.S. beyond a small chance at an Olivia Colman nomination for Guest Actress"

According to IMDb, Colman is in six episodes of Heartstopper. I can't recall if this is accurate (I binged it, so some of the episode boundaries flow together), but if it is she would be ineligible for the Guest Actress Emmy, under the 50% rule which knocked out Peter MacNicol a few years back. She'd have to campaign in Supporting, and that's obviously an insanely tough category.
