Good post. Appreciate the work you and the writers and the commentors do. Upgraded to founder.

Me just throwing idea out, and maybe it not practical, but it crossed mind when reading section about Substack.

If Substack not address its Nazi problem, or somehow gets worse and you do want to bail, could you put EM on new platform and also keep it here, and transition gradually? Double-post on both, while encouraging subscribers to move over to new site? And when once critical mass has moved over and you have certain amount of money coming into new platform, then pull plug on this site and hope remaining traffic moves over? Me know that still risk, but it seem like smaller one.

Honestly, the payment system can transfer over, so it’s not a problem of keeping the subscribers we have - it’s a problem of continuing to find new ones. It’s the only real growth engine we have in the absence of advertising, and I’m not really in a position to invest the time and money needed to try to make the standalone version work. The work Substack’s ecosystem does for us is ultimately critical to making this work (at least for the time being).

That make perfect sense. And me not really have sense of how many users are on Substack alternatives, or how good they are cross-pollinating.

Me sure you have already put far more thought into this than me have, it was just passing thought, which is only kind of thought me have room for during Girl Scout season!

Congratulations on 2 years Miles. This is one monthly subscription that I've never thought twice about, even when I'm not currently watching the shows being covered! I see the notifications for the reviews and file them away as "show that someone liked enough to write about it". I wouldn't have bothered with Fargo season 5 if not for Episodic Medium's coverage, and I'm glad I did!

I can only speak for myself, but I truly, honestly, *do not care* about Substack's moderation policies or the moral panic that The Atlantic article was trying so hard to whip up. (There's Nazis on the Internet, well knock me down with a feather!) I'll follow Episodic Medium to whichever platform you want to host it on, but if it helps ease your mind: *this* reader does not automatically assume that you support Nazis if you publish on Substack.

Love your work. Is anyone going to be covering season 5 of Star Trek Discovery?
