The air of inevitability has hovered over the third official season of The Mandalorian like a cloud,1 and that cloud has finally descended upon our heroes. Only the truly innocent or unaware would be shocked — shocked! — that the nefarious Moff Gideon is alive and doing quite well. “The Spies,” the penultimate episode of this season, wastes little time in making clear all the hints and suggestions throughout the past six episodes that Gideon is pulling strings behind the scenes. In doing so, creator and co-writer Jon Favreau finally answers the question that a few of you have asked in the comments: Bo-Katan Kryze attempting to retake the planet of Mandalore is all well and good, but from whom or what exactly are the Mandalorians retaking the planet?
