Review: Only Murders in the Building, "Sitzprobe" | Season 3, Episode 8
You have to investigate the suspects the show's NOT highlighting

It’s a very murder mystery season at Episodic Medium—Lisa Weidenfeld just finished her coverage of The Afterparty’s second season, and in November Alex McLevy will take a look at FX’s A Murder at the End of the World. We’ll see what the latter brings, but the former has definitely been in my head as I’ve worked my way through this third season of Only Murders in the Building, in part because they take such different approaches to characterization.
In the case of The Afterparty, the whole format—if you’re unfamiliar, every episode takes on a different style/genre in accordance with the character being investigated—is designed to dig deeper into the whole cast of potential suspects. Built around the conceit of Tiffany Haddish’s Detective Danner being obsessed with “Mind Movies,” it allows the show to create distinct stories while mostly documenting the characters being forced into a confined space as the investigation progresses.
