I am 1000% in on you completing the TV Club Classic rewatch of LOST! Like a lot of people hanging out here (I think, I imagine), LOST is the show that made me care about TV as a medium and about TV criticism. I wouldn't be in this space if it weren't for (both sets of) those old AV Club reviews! Ahhh!!!
I rewatched LOST with some friends in 2020-2021 during the peak of 'stay home and hang with your friends online' pandemic times, and got to revisit all kinds of old writings. I even made a huge list of reviews written both during and after airing, including Doc Jensen on EW (thanks to a google sheet some intrepid redditer created and the wayback machine), Emily Nussbaum on Vulture (S5-6), both sets of AV Club reviews, and more. Also, a whole bunch of LOST rewatch pods popped up around that time. And with both Emily/Noel's book and the Getting LOST documentary coming out in September, it is never not a good time to be a LOST fanatic! I am particularly keen to see how the revelations from Burn It Down figure into how you re-engage with LOST, though I'll take pretty much anything.
Also! I am excited for both Ben's takes on Silo (I watched it a few months ago, so it's still fresh), and anything you decide to do with Pachinko (one of my favourite new shows of the last 5 years)!
LOST Lets goooooooo!! I'm glad I rewatched it recently so my memory of individual episodes is relatively fresh. Also interested in the Silo reviews too. I watched it earlier this year and found it an interesting, if imperfect, sci-fi show.
I'm very excited about this line-up! Silo was my favorite show of 2023 and I'm excited to dive back and have a place to discuss it. Likewise, every time I teach Lost, I think "I should rewatch it someday." I'll just dive back in with s4 and see what I remember (maybe rewatch some earlier key episodes?). I watched most of Industry s1 when it first premiered, and getting reviews for s2 will motivate me to finish the season.
Once again, I would like to beg, plead, implore someone to do weekly write-ups on my favorite show, Slow Horses (season 4 beginning in Sept.). I know, from reading your column on what people are watching, that it is very popular with readers. It's okay to start now. Now is always a good time to begin.
Yes, Pachinko was excellent and it would really be a shame not to discuss the new season here. I had the impression that many readers were interested, considering the amount of comments on the related posts 🤔
Myles: ... just saying that the “Founding Members” option is available and I promise when things settle down later in the summer I’ll put some perks together for those who’ve kindly supported the site with additional contributions.
Me: Hmm, this is my favorite SubStack. I should upgrade to Founding...
(goes to account, sees that I'm already a Founding supporter)
Nice to see Bad Monkey listed! I'm not going to take credit for it, but I did mention it in the "week to week" newsletter when there were requests for other shows to review haha. Hopefully it fits in nicely to Apple TV's other murder mystery shows like Sugar or Afterparty.
Was there ever any interest in covering Invincible when it returns? It was certainly a show that would have benefitted from thorough discussion, but most of the online discourse just felt like typical superhero fandom stuff. I felt there was an emotional complexity to the second season that really made me want to dig deeper.
I beg to differ, as I read very interesting things about it here and there. And I agree with Robert that it is indeed a very rich show, interleaving many different genres and themes. Come one, Myles, you can create the perfect place for this famous discourse!
I had no idea they were making more Rings of Power. After it was so widely panned after being so so expensive I kind of figured Amazon would cut its losses. I guess I'm curious whether S2 will be less of a dumpster fire.
Yay Pachinko! Feels like it's been forever but it's so, so good.
Too much face to lose, I think. Anything other than framing it up as a total blow-out success would be too embarrassing. The had to set up a season two. I believe they moved away from NZ to film in the UK on soundstage to control costs, however.
In terms of whether it'll be a dumpster fire - I'm sure it will, but it'll probably be different kind of dumpster fire given how the open checkbook and trust in the showrunners failed to pay off last season.
I hadn’t heard that Pachinko and Mythic Quest were doing additional seasons soon. Long hiatus but looking forward to both.
Was a discussion had about just starting from season 1 of Lost? Or have viewpoints not changed enough in the last ten years to justify re-reviewing it? Looking forward to it anyway, and thanks for collecting the links. I have a hell of a time finding Emily and Zack’s X-Files and Millennium reviews while doing a rewatch.
You say "familiar faces Sarah Goldberg and Kit Harrington" but the only familiar face in that promo photo is Miles Straume himself, Ken Leung, which I assume was an intentional choice
I’m always excited for more classic coverage, but as a lonely hater of Lost, I don’t think I can jump on board. I’ve considered trying again, but there’s no way I can catch up with seasons 1-3 in time.
I will say, however, if Episodic Medium is open to picking up coverage for series TV Club Classic never finished, I would be first in line if you can get John Teti back to review Six Feet Under’s last season.

I will back you on this, even if the last season was slightly below the previous ones. But for Gary Oldman alone, it is worth watching!
There was one episode that may be my favorite of the whole series in it though.
Psst, "walk me through your thinking".
I am a big fan of Pachinko and looking forward to its return! Maybe I will try Silo as I have heard good things.

I don't think I'm breaking embargo to say that it's not exactly structured like a murder mystery.
Ah fair!
Thank you for those links!!!! Excited for Lost. Was dreading going back to dig through the broken AV Club archives to re-read.

Not really, honestly—feels like it's still pretty niche, as there really isn't much discourse to try to capture.

Oh, just what the doctor ordered -- even LOWER production values, somehow. Neat!

There was no such discussion - perhaps if Emily and Noel’s book didn’t exist we would have at least entertained the thought, but it does.

There's no cast key art for season three yet.

As someone who just finished season 3 of Lost earlier this week, this is great news
Looking good 👍
