Review: Yellowjackets, "F Sharp" | Season 1, Episode 2
An equally chaotic follow-up episode documents the brutal aftermath of a plane crash
Last week, I wrote that the otherwise strong pilot of Yellowjackets felt a bit unfinished, like the first half of a two-hour premiere. Sure enough, “F Sharp” feels like that second half, finally immersing us in the wilderness where most of this show will presumably take place. It also shows us much more of the plane crash itself, delivering on the chaos and disorientation I expected to see at the beginning.
That opening stretch of terror, and the impressively gnarly imagery throughout the episode, help prevent this from feeling like too big of a comedown from the pilot. The show isn’t rushing into establishing the status quo yet, at least in the 1996 scenes, so the momentum still feels quick. We still don’t know what life in the woods will be like on a daily basis for these girls, or just how quickly food will become a problem. This season is taking it one day at a time.
