Review: Yellowjackets, “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis” | Season 3, Episode 4
A relatively strong episode sticks to interpersonal conflict—in the wilderness, at least
I try not to be the type of Yellowjackets viewer who dismisses the potential supernatural elements. Throughout season two and especially season three so far, my problems derive more from the refusal to confirm anything one way or the other, a choice that continues to hold the show back from really having fun or even clarifying its emotional stakes again. But then there’s an episode like “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis” where the focus is squarely on the human elements, with barely any mentions of the wilderness spirit …and I can’t deny it. It’s just so much better this way.
This is an episode about the mock trial of Coach Ben Scott, obviously, but gathering all the characters in one place allows it to become an episode about everything happening at camp. I’ve been a bit tough on the general lack of story going on—the cave hallucinations, while successful on their own terms, didn’t allow for much plot advancement—but it’s excitin…
