Review: What We Do in the Shadows, “Urgent Care” | Season 5, Episode 6
This episode has everything: hairy floating frogs, a Familiar Hospital, and that dude from Mad Men
That’s more like it, yes? I could tell we were in for a fun ride with this week’s What We Do in the Shadows from the opening scene, which sees Laszlo in full theatrical flourish, acting like a combination mad scientist and self-help guru, fervently dedicated to a simple goal: getting Guillermo to fly. After last week’s manic outing, this episode’s cold open immediately felt more focused and confident. The 20 minutes that followed did that first scene justice.
We learn at the start that Laszlo has been experimenting with frogs, injecting them with some of Guillermo’s “blooood!” (the first of many magnificent Matt Berry line-readings this week) and then taking notes on their transformation. The frogs have hair on their heads—which bothers Guillermo a bit. (Guillermo: “Why are they so hairy?” Laszlo: “Why are you so hairy?
