Review: What We Do In The Shadows, "Pine Barrens" | Season 4, Episode 7
No, it’s not that “Pine Barrens, but it’s still pretty good
It takes some guts to give a television episode the same title as one of TV’s best-known and best-loved episodes of all time; but it speaks to the overall bravura of this What We Do in the Shadows season that its “Pine Barrens” can coexist comfortably with The Sopranos’. Is it better? Eh… apples and oranges. (Also, The Sopranos’ “Pine Barrens” is an enduring classic, so it’s really not fair to put these two side by side.)
But it is worth nothing that this title-choice isn’t just the Shadows’ writers being cheeky. Their “Pine Barrens” is set in the same New Jersey woodlands where Chris and Paulie in The Sopranos once tried to bury a Russian mobster, along with some of their ill feelings toward each other. And in this Shadows episode, Laszlo and Nandor take Young Colin Robinson on a hunting trip to Sean’s cabin in the Pine Barrens, where the two old vampire buddies sort through some of the reasons why they seem to be mad at each other all the time.
Oh and they also kill the Jerse…
