Review: What We Do in the Shadows, “The Campaign” | Season 5, Episode 4
Colin Robinson gets a showcase episode which proves once again how to wring brilliance from boredom
When Colin Robinson spent most of What We Do In the Shadows’s fourth season as a child, I know some of the show’s fans were a little disappointed—because Baby Colin Robinson, Teen Colin Robinson and all the Colin Robinsons in between didn’t give Mark Proksch a chance to put his whole body, face and voice into his performance. As for me, I loved all the kiddie Colins, because I enjoy how the Shadows writers keep coming up with new ways to use the whole concept of “the energy vampire.” The Season 4 experiment was brilliant. What’s more draining than a little boy, hammering holes in the wall and singing show tunes?
That said, I do appreciate what Proksch can bring to the role when he’s fully present. I think my favorite bit of schtick in Season 5 so far has been Colin Robinson as a waiter in “The Mall,” feeding off his customers by irritating them with his ineptitude.
