Review: The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power, "Doomed To Die" | Season 2, Episode 7
Celebrimbor comes to his senses, but it *might* be too late...
Well, here we are at the penultimate episode of season 2, and you know what that means: it’s epic battle time! I can’t remember what serialized show first started the trend of building to a climax just before hitting the finale (The Sopranos, maybe?), but it’s a trick that still works well enough. This has been as messy a season as the first, albeit with a slightly narrower focus, and in context “Doomed To Die” doesn’t so much fix the problems that came before it as it does light them on fire and shout “COOL HUH?” in the hopes that we’ll be too busy oohing and aahing to ask many questions. But while I might be skeptical of the effectiveness of that approach in the long term, I can’t deny it works well here. “Die” is likely to be my favorite episode of the season if only because it keeps its focus on a single place and idea—the Siege of Eregion—and even scenes that take place away from the battle intentionally refer back to it.
