Review: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, "The Eye" | Season 1, Episode 7
The aftermath of last week’s cataclysm causes problems for some, opportunities for others
Whenever I watch a new show, there’s always a point where my brain decides if it’s worth caring about or not. This may come as a surprise, but I approach everything intending to give it as much benefit of the doubt as possible; I am, by nature, inclined to trust artists and their intentions no matter how many jokes I make on Twitter. But that trust only goes so far. My level of engagement—or my suspension of disinterest, if you will—can only be sustained by curiosity and goodwill for so long, no matter how much I might wish otherwise, and sooner or later, the show has to earn its keep. The decision isn’t necessarily permanent, and your individual flexibility when it comes to caring likely works different than mine, but it’s still a moment I recognize. A click that happens in my head that means, at least for now, I’m all in.
