Review: The Afterparty, "Sebastian" | Season 2, Episode 5
A flashy heist homage leaves room for all the suspects to do their own investigating
The Afterparty has always balanced its adventures into filmmaking genres with straightforward B-plots that we as the audience are supposed to take as the real world of the show, since they’re not anyone’s subjective point of view. But it’s always been something of a challenge to make those sections as diverting as the wacky doings of the main plot. Season 1 leaned heavily on Sam Richardson’s comedic chops to make those scenes sing, but it was rare for them to be as memorable as whatever was going on in the wild world of Danner’s investigation.
The “Hannah” episode this season revealed something rather funny: All the suspects, many of whom hate each other, are just killing time in a big room together. “Sebastian” runs with that concept, letting everyone argue, push each other’s buttons, and also come across clues independently of Sebastian’s retelling of the night to Danner and Aniq.
