Review: The Afterparty, “Isabel” | Season 2, Episode 9
A solid if slightly tepid episode takes us through to the finale
As we near the finale and the eventual reveal of who killed Edgar, he remains surprisingly hard to pin down. Was he the gawky but loving paramour of Grace’s dreams? The stilted but welcoming host we saw with Aniq? Or is he, as both Isabel and Sebastian have portrayed him, cold, calculating, and ready to betray those closest to him in pursuit of money?
In Isabel’s case, at least, she’s got a bit of a smoking gun, or napkin, so to speak. Her tale of Edgar’s efforts to convince her she’s losing her mind asks a lot of her audience, but she’s got what appears to be proof that Edgar was tampering with things around her to make her look bad, brandishing a monogrammed wedding napkin showing she had gotten Grace’s name right.
It’s hard-won knowledge for her, since in her psychological thriller reimagining of the last year of her life, Edgar has been chipping away at her sanity for months. Whether he’s giving her the wrong medicine, swapping out her wedding toast, or making strange purchases show…
