What an odd show The Acolyte is. I applaud that this show doesn’t quite seem like any of the other Star Wars series, even if the execution of its ideas continues to make me scratch my head. As we approach next week’s finale, I will at least acknowledge that even if this show was a) a movie or b) a more chronologically straightforward story, it would still be hitting on some ideas that are rarely depicted in the history of the franchise. There’s been more than lip service paid to the notion that the Jedi are less than the sum of their nobly-intentioned parts, for one thing, with a major revelation in “Choice” that clears up any of the mystery from past episodes. What this show is attempting to do, or at least the manner of its storytelling, does feel different and intriguing.
