Review: Survivor, "Vibe Of The Tribe" | Season 42, Episode 4
A lesson in why it's dangerous to play too hard too early, both physically and strategically
After last week’s domination in the Immunity Challenge, Jonathan emerged as one of the most significant physical threats in Survivor history, at a time when—due to the lack of rice—physical strength is at more of a premium than ever before. And so it isn’t surprising that when Taku dominates the reward challenge that opens “Vibe Of The Tribe,” the other tribes are quick to claim that it was Jonathan’s doing—one even suggests that it was “all him.”
This doesn’t actually track with what happened in that challenge, though: the braided rope was entirely about coordination, and while Jonathan seemed to be leading their strategy it had nothing to do with strength and everything to do with execution. And in what seemed like a conscious effort by producers to keep one player from single-handing a win, every player had to toss a ball into the cylinder, which did nothing to slow Taku …
