Review: Survivor, "Two Dorky Magnets" | Season 44, Episode 2
A budding showmance gives the episode its title, but the birdcage generates all the drama
In this second post-COVID Survivor cycle, the shift to individualized “challenges” to earn the first immunity idol is a great improvement over the “secret phrase” era we will never speak of again. The bead challenge smartly moved away from the cross-tribe dynamics that made for heavily delayed gratification in the first deployment of the Beware Advantage, but it was missing the sense of risk associated with drawing attention from the rest of the players (since the bead thing didn’t really ping any radars).
The “birdcage” is a smart inflection point, and in “Two Dorky Magnets” you can see the editors were maybe happy when Ratu blew up the birdcage by finding it together.
