Review: Survivor, "Survivor with a Capital S" | Season 44, Episode 6
Eh, more like a lower case s in a slightly larger font, if we're being honest here
Carolyn was positioned as the main character of Season 44 in the opening scene of the premiere, and it has become increasingly clear why. In addition to being active in the “game” based on the large number of tribals for Tika and her discovery of the birdcage idol, she is strikingly honest about her vulnerabilities playing this game.
We see this pop up in the wake of the convergence of the tribes on Ratu’s beach, as all of her social anxieties jump to the surface. As the group sits together engaging in basic small talk, the editors use sound design to reflect Carolyn’s struggle to know when to interject. No one is actively isolating her, or treating her poorly. And while she does eventually chime in with an awkward interjection about enjoying sweating, it’s not like it creates a specific conflict. She just feels like it’s Day 1 all over again, and the weight of the social dynamics of the game combined with the fatigue of little-to-no food and general exhaustion leave her struggling to …
