The finale reveals that when the story doesn't go producers' way, they'll just...tell it like it did?
As the players explore their new island home at the beginning of this finale, Jesse voiceovers that he’s been playing a subtle game, which is why he needed to blindside his closest ally in Cody. As we discussed last week, though, this hasn’t been the message sent by the edit, which has consistently positioned Jesse as the game’s true mastermind.
It’s understandable that there would be some distinction between the game being played in Fiji and the game being constructed in the edit, but it was super weird to see literally every other player waking up to Jesse’s place in the game when the edit has been there all along. But the swiftness of this shift is a critical part of the story being told here, because with Karla and Jesse firmly established as the game’s biggest threats, all attention turns to the players who are fighting to sit beside one of them—or ideally, without them—in the…
