Review: Survivor, “Get That Money, Baby” | Season 43, Episode 10
Survivor tries to find time for both an inspirational triumph and a choreographed blindside
When it first happened, I rolled my eyes a bit at how Jeff was overselling Noelle’s reward challenge win at the beginning of “Get That Money, Baby.”
To be clear, it’s a tremendous accomplishment, and her efforts to overcome her disability to continue to compete have been admirable, here resulting in a comeback victory that Jeff loses his mind over. But it also doesn’t matter to the game of Survivor, and I need to be honest and say that the “inspirational” parts of the show have never connected for me. I get why the show focuses on them, but I always think about how much the time spent on them could be used to focus on something that better serves the story that needs to be told in that hour as it relates to who eventually is voted out at episode’s end.
However, by the time we got to the end of the episode, it became clear that Survivor’s editors were able to have their cake and eat it too when it comes to Noelle’s victory. Because her moment of determination seemed to solidify…
