Rome is burning bridges, but the ferries are still running (for now)
When Rome arrives at the journey, where he meets up with Kyle and Anika, he’s in showman mode. I mean, he’s never not in showman mode, if we’re being honest, but it’s especially clear here. While Bhanu turned the journey into a trauma dump, its real function is the strategic exchange of information at a stage when the tribes are mysteries to one another. Just look at how Kyle probes the idea that Sam and Sierra are a showmance with Anika, and latches onto the idea that their platonic partnership—they’re both in relationships with other people—means they’re running the show. And for Rome, he’s very quick to explain that Aysha and Sol are running the game, so that Anika and Kyle think that he’s on the bottom of his tribe.
It’s an absurd suggestion, though: Sol has barely spoken, and without having gone to tribal council it would be wrong to suggest anyone is really in “charge” of the tribe. In truth, the only person who has positioned themselves as a leader is Rome, chattering …
