Review: Succession, "Connor's Wedding" | Season 4, Episode 3
A gutsy episode knocks over the chessboard just when it seemed like the endgame was in motion—oh, yes, and Connor gets married
For a few moments, I entertained the notion that it was a fakeout. I was watching the third of the four episodes of Succession HBO sent out to critics for pre-air reviews of the fourth season, and it just didn’t seem possible that Logan Roy was dying. Surely the show didn’t have the balls to pull this off, three weeks into its final season, and just a week after the karaoke stand-off and the offer Roman couldn’t refuse. At the same time, how cheap would it be if “Connor’s Wedding”—with script credited solely to Jesse Armstrong, which should be your first hint of its significance—built this emotional roller coaster, only to end the ride with Tom picking up the phone and telling everyone “He pulled through”?
