Review: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, "The Serene Squall"
Spock wonders who he is; Nurse Chapel has some suggestions
“The Serene Squall” has Strange New Worlds once again diving into the depths of Spock’s romantic life, and, I’m somewhat astonished to say, I am here for it. Given the character’s importance in the franchise, and given my own affection for Nimoy’s run, it’s funny to think how little we know about his post T’Pring love life. There was the lady he liked when he was under the spell of plant magic, and there was the woman he hooked up with in the distant past before he had to leave her forever, and, well, that’s about it. I’m sure the various books and comics offered up other partners, but in terms of on-screen romance, there’s not a lot to draw from. Partly that’s just the dictates of the era; shows like the original Star Trek didn’t really have long terms relationships, unless characters were married or on their way to getting there, and the modern emphasis most series put on will-they/won’t-they just didn’t really exist.
