Review: Silo, “Descent” | Season 2, Episode 5
An entertaining enough episode sets up a more exciting follow-up
This season of Silo has made a lot of improvements when it comes to the complexity of characterization, which has translated to less predictable storytelling. But “Descent” strikes me as a season one-esque episode—partly because of the general conflict of “the raiders are after fugitives from Mechanical!” but mostly because it feels a little transitional. It’s not that any particular scene feels slow in the moment; it’s just that we’re running in place a little, putting off any significant plot movement until next week.
That applies to both Silo stories, but especially to Silo 17, which gets less screen time than usual this week. There are some interesting strands introduced here, but none reach a resolution within the hour, leaving it all feeling a tad unsatisfying. Take, for example, Solo’s request that Juliette save him from eventual drowning by running power to the pump, a plot point that must come into play again down the line, if not next week.
