Review: Shrinking, "Closure" | Season 1, Episode 10
A mostly good vibes finale pushes some new stakes into the picture for the show's second season
If you went into the Shrinking finale hoping for huge plot developments for our central characters, you likely left disappointed.
For the most part, everything in “Closure” achieves…well, a degree of closure. While things are still icy between Alice and Jimmy when the episode begins as they process their different relationships with grief, by episode’s end they’re dancing to “Modern Love” at Brian’s wedding, each having found peace with their situation. Although Paul’s reluctance to write a formal letter of reference for Gaby earns him another raw dogging from Liz, when he storms onto campus to make his case in person she’s already gotten the job, meaning it just turns into a chance for him to roast a colleague. And as much as Liz is worried about stepping up to ask Sean to be more involved with the catering business she invested in, he’s easily won over by her moment of vulnerability, and there’s not even any wrenches thrown into the mix (for now).
