Review: She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, "Superhuman Law" | Season 1, Episode 2
An actual premise emerges, mostly affirming the premiere's promise
If I was unclear last week why Disney wouldn’t have chosen to debut She-Hulk: Attorney at Law with two episodes, it’s inexplicable after having seen the show’s second episode.
What Jessica Gao and the writers have done with the show is deconstruct the various elements of a television pilot, extracting the “origin” elements and turning them into a traditional superhero origin story and leaving the articulation of the TV show itself until “Superhuman Law.” If you haven’t been following the interviews with Gao, she revealed that the material with Bruce was originally part of the show’s eighth episode, but a decision was made at a later point to move the Mexico scenes into the premiere. That means, likely, that there was a version of this show where we jump right into She-Hulk’s debut in the courtroom to her subsequent firing, focusing on the legal show setup before circling back to the superhero of it all.
