Review: She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, "Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans" | Season 1, Episode 5
If you only have nine episodes, 25-minute repeats of last week's theme don't cut it
Now at the mid-point of the season, there’s no question that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is entering into its fireworks factory moment, whether fairly or unfairly.
It’s a consequence of its design. Every MCU TV show has had to deal with the fact that we’re shifting from a medium that swiftly delivers both setup and climax in a single package to one where viewers are meant to wait weeks for the same payoff, but She-Hulk is particularly susceptible to frustration on this point. While basically following the same formula as WandaVision—mostly half-hour episodes, nine in the season—it doesn’t have the same benefit of familiar characters, or a conceit that is constantly hinting at a greater purpose. Rather, it’s a legal procedural, moving at a pace distinct from the six-episode runs of shows like Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight that more swiftly transitioned into a second act.
