Review: Secret Invasion, "Harvest" | Season 1, Episode 5
This penultimate episode raises more questions than answers
If Secret Invasion was ever going to elevate itself, it was going to be in episode five, which is where Marvel Disney+ shows tend to position their most formally inventive, emotionally potent episodes. But unlike Moon Knight’s afterlife episode, Ms. Marvel’s Partition journey, or Loki’s Void extravaganza, Secret Invasion uses its fifth installment to deliver a bog-standard continuation of everything that’s come before. It’s clear now that this spy thriller is unlikely to pull the rug out from its audience in a way that recontextualizes everything we’ve seen so far. So it’s time to come to terms with the fact that while Secret Invasion might not be the worst show Marvel has ever produced, it’s certainly the most “meh.”
