Review: Rick and Morty, "Juricksic Mort" | Season 6, Episode 6
In which dinosaurs return for a largely pleasant half-hour
Another week, another goofy-as-hell Rick and Morty; thankfully, though, it’s another goofy-as-hell episode that lands on the right side of the “clever/stupid” divide. Or maybe it’s not a side at all, really. Maybe it’s just walking that line with the sweet, smooth precision of a triceratops skateboarding down the side of a “very large deep circular indentation.” The secret to Rick and Morty is that the line never goes away entirely. Even the cleverest episodes have a soupcon of the stupid in them, and even the dumbest shit imaginable at least waves occasional towards “oh, heh, cute.” The secret is getting the balance right. Not consistent, mind you; I don’t need the show to settle on a single tone and commit to it for the duration. But some stories you want a bit more depth than dumb, while others you want to keep light.
“Juricksic Mort,” in which a group of dinosaurs return to Earth and make everything great for everyone, falls into the latter camp. There’s not a lot…
