Review: Rick and Morty, "Bethic Twinstinct" | Season 6, Episode 3
Beth explores her...options in a strong character-driven episode
Sooner or later, clones always end up making out with themselves. It’s a concept I can respect but never entirely understand; I know myself, sure, and I know what I like and don’t like, but that’s not enough to make me look into my own reflection and start thinking of pick-up lines. But sci-fi is full of horny clones, and it was probably only a matter of time before the two Beths started getting frisky. It even makes sense for Beth as a character; in her way, she’s as self-absorbed and arrogant as her father, so of course she’d be drawn to a slightly different version of herself. What makes “Bethic Twinstinct” work is that it more or less explores the idea…well, “straight” is maybe not the right word in this context, but the episode takes the concept seriously enough to dig into its potential emotional ramifications. Which, of course, only makes it funnier.
This is turning out to be a good season for character work, which is smart. Not every episode can be a mind-blowe…
