Review: Only Murders in the Building, "The Tell" | Season 2, Episode 5
A murderous party game brings a predictable subject into the spotlight
In last week’s comment section, discussion naturally turned to the potential killer, and suspicion naturally turned to Cara Delavigne’s Alice: she inserted herself into Mabel’s life very suddenly, and her air of mystery is a natural signal that there’s something up with her. But in the subsequent discussion, subscribers logically pointed out that it would be a bit weak if the show told two stories about love interests turned murderers back-to-back, a thought reinforced by Jan’s return in last week’s cliffhanger.
So it was funny to see “The Tell” effectively responding to our conversation, a sort of knowing wink to say that they know where our heads are at. While I suppose it’s possible that someone could have never thought about Alice as the killer and had a moment of revelation with Jan tells Charles that the killer sounds like a storyteller who recently entered their lives, the way the episode frames it registers as the characters catching up to the audience.
