Hard lessons abound as Poppy makes her pitch and Ian gets in David's way (again)
There are times watching this show when it’s hard not to have the really basic takeaway that making things is hard. Sure, the specifics of why fluctuate episode to episode, and since this is a TV show, all the pitfalls are heightened, but a lot of it comes down to the near-impossibility of making and selling a thing that people like.
For Poppy this episode, she’s gifted the double whammy of realizing how ill-equipped she is to actually sell a product, followed by the news that her product is basically unsellable anyway. Granted, it might have gone better if she hadn’t targeted the investor she previously told to “suck a duck.” But you can make something really good and ambitious in this world, pour your heart and soul into it, and still be told by an investor that your idea isn’t worth investing in because it won’t be profitable enough. It’s a reminder that there are roughly infinite factors that all have to align perfectly for something like this to work. It’s not jus…
