Review: Mythic Quest, “The Two Joes” | Season 3, Episode 4
A star cameo doesn’t turn into a bright spot for the Apple TV+ comedy
Breaking up the band, as Mythic Quest has chosen to do in its third season, is a good way to mix up established patterns and character beats on a show. It forces characters into trying new things, and stepping outside their comfort zones. But it also means that many of the things that worked on the show are sidelined, and we’re missing the chance to see all of our faves bounce off of each other.
And while I’ve called out the odd journey Brad has been on all season for lacking direction, it’s hard to think of a character more stranded by the new circumstances than Ian. For the first two seasons of the show, he was the visionary: an arrogant, successful man who had a lot of things the other characters lacked, but who was nonetheless concealing a deep well of pain.
