The halfway point of the season foregrounds—and shares—Poppy's creative struggles
If ever a show could be said to be treading water, this might be it. Halfway through the season, GrimPop has completely reversed course and decided to abandon a game they spent a year building, and one they accepted a lot of seed money to make. Instead, they’re going to release their own video game building program that Poppy put together in a day.
Is this what this season is about? We’re five episodes in, and it’s still not totally clear. I’m starting to feel like the Bobs in Office Space, staring at Ian’s scenes and asking, “What would you say you do here?” Poppy has a complete crisis about her inability to create a fun game, but instead of talking it through with Ian, she gives up. It also doesn’t seem like he’s been weighing in on anything up to this point, despite the fact that he’s slapping his name on whatever they end up producing. Does he care?
