Review: Masters of the Air, "Part Four" | Season 1, Episode 4

Perhaps by design, it’s a bit difficult to get a grasp on what Masters of the Air wants to be week to week. For those of us who recall with great fondness the previous World War II limited series Band of Brothers and The Pacific, the recollection is accompanied by a sense of creative expectations. Leave aside whether or not your hopes were high for this show; you probably had what felt like a safe assumption entering the series of what its story would be. It’s not just that the miniseries would follow the American effort against the Nazis in World War II, but that it would a) follow a specific Air Force group and b) follow the men of that group through at least a section of World War II if not through its conclusion in 1945. So far…well, the show has absolutely accomplished the first of those two aims.
