Review: Loki, "Heart of the TVA" | Season 2, Episode 4
A game-changing episode doesn’t pull its punches
Well that was ballsy! I spent most of this episode pondering the concept of free will, contemplating how basically everyone this season is having a mental breakdown, and wondering if there was maybe a little too much runaround plotting in this hour. And then it goes and delivers an ending that entirely upends my expectations about where this season is going.
Continuing my theory that this season of Loki is a mirror image of the first, it’s perhaps no surprise that we get a high-stakes fourth episode that’s contained within the TVA and seemingly features some major character deaths. But while last season’s “The Nexus Event” saw Mobius and Loki succumb to pruning only for a post-credits scene to tease that they were probably okay, this episode takes things a giant leap further. As far as we know, the entire TVA is wiped out by the Time Loom’s meltdown, potentially collapsing a whole heap of timelines with it. And unlike last season, there’s no post-credits tease to hint at how our heroes…
