Review: Justified: City Primeval, “Kokomo” | Episode 4

As I wrote in my review of last week’s Justified: City Primeval episode, both it (“Backstabbers”) and this week’s episode (“Kokomo”) arguably work best as a singular piece. But without getting too deep into the weeds of the binge watch model of television again, “Kokomo” really follows up the previous episode just as it typically would under said model: opening with an adrenaline-pumping flashback to what exactly Clement Mansell did that brought a swarm of Detroit’s finest over to Skender Lulgjaraj’s place at the end of “Backstabbers.” From this opening on, “Kokomo” continues to build on a number of points hit on in “Backstabbers” that—again—would’ve made the pairing of the two episodes make a lot of sense. But it’s ultimately not my way to criticize a show for what it could or “should” be. And for what it is, “Kokomo” continues to show how and why Justified: City Primeval isn’t exactly the same animal as the original series.
