Another Westeros wedding for—and from—the history books
“The time is coming, Alicent.”
Otto Hightower, having been dismissed as Hand of the King, is furious with his daughter. In the aftermath of the claims made regarding Rhaenyra and Daemon, she chose to believe her friend, giving Viserys leave to remove Otto as his chief advisor. Alicent insists that perhaps things wouldn’t have gone the way they did if only he hadn’t been pushing Aegon as heir so hard, but Otto remains steadfast in his beliefs on this point. While it is easy to frame Otto’s quest for his grandson to ascend to the throne as yet another second son trying to improve his place in history, and this may well be true, he doesn’t see it that way. He simply believes that pushing forward Rhaenyra as heir to the throne is a one-way ticket to absolute anarchy. He was only doing what he thought necessary to keep the realm from descending into war, and the time is indeed coming when there will be no turning back.
