That’s Dorothy—or perhaps Nadine—in puppet form, telling the story of how she ended up living with the Tillmans as a teenager, before marrying Roy. In her tale, Roy is one of the wolves: a towering, violent figure, lurking in the shadows and waiting to pounce. He has the dark aura of some mythical beast. Even later in this week’s Fargo episode, when Wayne Lyon improvises a bedtime story for Scotty about her brave mother, Sheriff Roy is superimposed over the frame, like a phantom. He’s the Big Bad.
