In which Roy suffers a political setback and Dot (among others) pays the price
As you may recall, not long after President Trump was inaugurated, his administration rolled out its targeted travel ban, which led to days of chaos at airports and widespread protests in major cities. In the middle of all that mayhem, a frustrated lefty friend of mine posted on social media that as a middle-aged Midwestern mom, she wished she could stop desperately emailing politicians and get back to what her life had been like just a year before: mainly book clubs and wine.
The lament of the privileged? Maybe. Me, I found this touchingly honest—and deeply human. It reminded me of all the nights back then when I’d walk around my neighborhood (in a “purple” college town, in a deep red state) and see, through kitchen windows, Fox News playing on the TVs of the kindly oldsters living near us.
