Review: Echo, "Maya" | Season 1, Episode 5
A stellar finale proves this series is absolutely worth watching
Well damn! Who would’ve thought that the MCU show with such a lackluster start would end with one of the best season finales in the Disney+ canon? Echo has brought us on quite the journey in its short five-episode run. And while I’m still annoyed that Marvel launched the series on such an off-note, I’m thrilled I can so wholeheartedly recommend the rest of it without any of those “it falls apart in the third act” caveats you so often have to give with a Marvel property.
In fact, pretty much each episode of Echo has improved on the last, culminating in a finale that manages to weave together the season’s themes in a really satisfying way, even as it delivers some genuine plot surprises too. And though I could’ve used more room to let everything breathe (the finale clocks in at just 37 minutes), it turns out that when you use your screentime thoughtfully and intentionally, you can accomplish so much more than any overstuffed smorgasbord ever could.
