I had a lot of fun. We all know at this point that any Dexter sequel is probably motivated in no small parts by money bags, but beyond that it did feel like it managed to reclaim the sense of thrill at moments that made the original series so fun.

There were of course lots of silly beats. The doctor literally seeing Dexter wake up from a six week coma and just getting out of there as fast as he could with no medical followup made me laugh out loud, and realize this show has no intention of changing whatsoever regardless of how many decades or reboots may follow. Other Dexter Highlights: the guy detective describing the female detective as 'seeing things we don't', followed by the dumbest montage of her searching for matching trash bags by tieing method (no way any regular detective could see that). Also: the Dark Passenger killer using a tech hoodie to circumvent his face being seen but taking a bag with his company logo into every taxi. It somehow feels refreshing that after 2 decades, with so many current tv shows trying to be cool and serious, Dexter realizes most people likely don't care about copious setups and just decides to get to the good parts instantly.

I also fully agree that this show gets A LOT out of its cast and some of the dialogue probably shouldn't have worked as well without them. I'm already enjoy seeing Uma ham it up, and with Peter Dinklage also coming into play (the trailer already pretty much revealed his role but I won't spoil anything beyond saying it looks like a lot of fun) there's ample room for this season to deliver. I can honestly say that the latter half of the 2nd episode especially I was enjoying every scene, which is something that I haven't experienced since the original series (haven't watched Original Sin so can't comment on that but NB failed to excite me by and large).

I’m digging this. Not perfect, but it’s off to a strong start. I like the supernatural and Kubrick vibes.

They should have just brought in Vincent D’Onofrio if they wanted to do the whole over-the-top detective thing.

I was lukewarm on New Blood, and I’ll admit that I actually enjoyed the low-stakes silliness of Original Sin, but this one looks like it might actually be good!
