Review: Andor, "One Way Out" | Season 1, Episode 10
Cassian and Kino lead a miniature rebellion against the Imperial Empire as another mini-movie concludes
There have been two major throughlines in the first season of Andor, which call to mind (for me, at least) two excellent AMC dramas. The first throughline was best exemplified by last week’s episode title—“Nobody’s Listening!” It’s one thing to dare to rebel against a fascistic empire, but it’s another to do so against a fascistic empire so hellbent on power that it’s not even aware of the freedom fighters pushing back against them. For a good chunk of the season, this throughline has reminded me of a well-worn meme inspired by Mad Men: the Rebels were Ginsberg in the elevator telling Don Draper “I feel bad for you,” and the Empire was Don Draper saying “I don’t think about you at all.”
