Getting the gang back together

Early in the course of Bob Iger’s first go-round as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, his tenure was marked by the purchases he made. Within months of his appointment, Disney acquired Pixar Animation Studios, and in the following years, they acquired Lucasfilm and Marvel. The gamble in making those purchases was clear, but in the case of Marvel, the reward has vastly outweighed the risk. The improbably interconnected films and TV shows that comprise the Marvel universe are financially successful beyond belief and have influenced every other studio with its own blockbuster fare. There is plenty of reason to see this as a bad thing, but the power and influence of Marvel in the industry is undeniable.
