A terrifying horror movie homage changes the game for Agatha
It’s always a little disconcerting to click on one of these Marvel Disney+ episodes and discover that it’s only 31 minutes long (24 minutes without credits and the previously on). My first instinct is usually to assume that corners were cut or something went wrong in the editing room. But “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power” proves it’s not about the length of the runtime—it’s what you do with it that matters.
In fact, these might be the most thrilling, emotionally complex 24 minutes of Agatha All Along to date, which is especially impressive when you consider that they’re more about raising questions than providing answers. While I critiqued last week’s episode for falling into a predictable trial-of-the-week pattern that I assumed the show was going to follow for the rest of the season, “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power” suggests Jac Schaeffer and co. have far more tricks up their sleeve than I was giving them credit for.
