Review: Abbott Elementary, "Valentine's Day" | Season 2, Episode 14
The holiday makes for some interesting dynamics for the series’ will-they-won’t-they relationship
From reviewing this season of Abbott Elementary, I’ve been made aware that some viewers (read: Myles McNutt) are not a fan of the series’ particular will-they-won’t-they aspect.1 It’s something that’s been ramping up this season, and naturally—yet in some ways even more directly than expected—it’s brought even more to the forefront in its Valentine’s Day episode. (An episode that is appropriately the 14th episode of the second season, though it, unfortunately, could haven’t aired on the 14th day of the second month, the actual Valentine’s day.)
While I’d argue that the way Abbott Elementary approaches the Janine/Gregory will-they-won’t-they situation is interesting on a couple of fronts, “Valentine’s Day” does have to do some maneuvering to get the ball running on that front, in the form of Jacob misreading Janine’s student crush situation. As much as little Donnie’s crush on Janine could arguably fill up more of a plot in another episode of Abbott Elementary, the series …
