Review: Abbott Elementary, "Principal's Office" | Season 2, Episode 4

Bluey’s grip on the youth of today has finally reached Abbott Elementary

Of all the things in Abbott Elementary that viewers can point to and say, “yep, that’s really how it is,” this week’s episode having students go “oooh” whenever someone gets sent to the principal’s office has to be right at the top of the list. While it was obvious to anyone watching “Principal’s Office” (and possibly should’ve been obvious to Gregory within the episode) that no actual disciplinary action would be taken in Principal Ava Coleman’s office—as this series does not have a stern Vice Principal a la Boston Public’s Scott Guber—the reality of the universal “oooh” of mockery and embarrassment over being punished still lands.

But being neither a teacher nor a person who spends time with children, I can only imagine how transitioning from being a substitute teacher to being a full-on first-grade teacher must feel like diving into the deep end. Which is why, with Gregory, Abbott Elementary has taken a character who would seemingly always be the most prepared for any…
